The “3 T’s” for the Holidays

As we near holiday season, many of you are anticipating spending time with family or friends. Often this time presents a welcome opportunity for rest, relaxation, and reconnection. However, for some, travelling and family/friend interactions pose as significant sources of stress.

According to chiropractic philosophy, the causes of spinal misalignment—or ‘subluxation’—fall into three general categories, commonly referred to as the ‘3 T’s’: Thoughts, Traumas, and Toxins. Thoughts refer to psychological stressors—for example, how to handle that uncle at the Thanksgiving table who seems to always bring up politics and make everyone irate. Traumas include obvious things like hitting your head on an airplane overhead bin or being made to sleep on a 30-year-old mattress in your relative’s basement. Toxins may involve the consumption of particular foods or drinks, or excessive amounts of these—for instance, sugar or alcohol. The temptation to indulge can be powerful during the holidays, particularly when we are comfortable and enjoying ourselves.

So, while the holidays are a blessing, they almost invariably include certain activities that increase the risk of spinal misalignment. This is why we want to remind you—amid all of the hustle and bustle—to not neglect your regular chiropractic visits. Once you return to our office, we will locate and correct any misalignments you may have developed, ideally before these get a chance to linger, ultimately generating pain and/or dysfunction. In the meantime, on behalf of all the doctors and staff, we wish you a wonderful and meaningful holiday season.
